The text says your Netflix payment failed or the account is locked, with a link to “update billing.” Real billing problems show inside the Netflix app and website you open yourself. Cold SMS links are a common way to steal passwords.
"Netflix: We could not process your payment of $15.49. Update billing within 24 hours to avoid interruption: netflix-billing-update.com/pay"
5 signs it’s fake
- Link isn’t the real Netflix site
- Urgent “24 hours or cancel” tone from a random number
- Asks for password on a browser page from SMS
- Odd spelling or weird From name
- You already pay Netflix and nothing looks wrong in the app
What to do instead
- Open the Netflix app from your phone’s home screen — not the text.
- If payment is fine, delete the SMS.
- Paste the text into ScamCheck.
- If you typed a password on a fake page, change it in the real app and on email if you reused it.
