What is a job overpayment scam?
A scammer pretends to hire you (often remote “data entry,” “package receiver,” or “mystery shopper”). They send a fake check or claim they paid you twice, then ask you to return the “extra” by Zelle, Venmo, wire, gift cards, or crypto.
The deposit can look real for days. After you send money, the check bounces — and your transfer is gone. Real employers fix payroll through HR; they do not pressure you to move money to a private person the same day.
